Brittany & John are one of the most romantic couples I’ve ever photographed, something that was immediately obvious even during their engagement session. From behind my camera I could see them lock eyes in a room and it was as if the air went out of it along with all the people in it. They are sort of magnetically connected in a way that made photographing their day about capturing the look, the eye lock, the intensity between them more than anything else. And of course, they have deliciously elegant taste with a dash of Mad Men era pinache. Such vintage elegance was woven through the day and the details as everything, everything was personal, meaningful and came with a story. From the pearls she wore – a gift from him because he said every lady should have pearls – to the table centerpieces – library books tied with twine – their day suggested to me that they are utterly and completely on the same page. Please excuse the pun, but it must be said that that page is likely to be wrapped in a linen, well-worn hardback covering with gilded titles by Shakespear and Poe and Dickens. Smart and elegant is quite a combination.
