Vanessa, Marcus and their families hosted one of the sweetest, engaging and emotional weddings I’ve ever photographed. Marcus cried. Vanessa cried. Moms and dads cried. Vanessa’s twin and her older sister cried. I’m pretty sure I cried. Twice. Marcus is preparing to be a pastor and Vanessa a sort of first lady in the pastoral sense; I’m certain she will be the strength and the love that Marcus seeks as he leads people on their path and he will be the same to her. Vanessa & Marcus are unassuming and goofy and that wonderful sort of crazy Christian that makes everyone want to be a part of whatever they have going on. She wore Tom’s all day (not just after the heels started to hurt) and they were accompanied by a giant wedding party – when you are as cool and as fun and as loving as Vanessa and Marcus it just makes sense to have 8 or so people (each!) you simply can’t exclude from your big day. Vanessa’s dad wrote and shared a seriously well-written poem for his toast, managing to poke fun at Marcus and his bohemian daughter, but also to reveal the deep well of love he has for them both. The reception was gorgeous and gracious and perfectly styled in warm tones by David Caruso and Dahlia Blooms – it was, very simply, everything the families could have hoped for and more. Everyone (and I mean everyone) ended the night on the dance floor celebrating with Marcus & Vanessa, hands high, smiles wide, and hearts totally open.
