Kris & Scott were married a few months ago in Hawaii and as I said in their wedding blog post the day unfolded the way it only could in Hawaii, with champagne toasts on a 15th floor balcony above while Hawaiian canoes raced below. The delicious smell of plumeria in their traditional leis followed them wherever they went – from the beach to a roof top luau. Fast forward to May in Milwaukee and we find ourselves at one of the more surprising venues in the city – a lavishly elegant, old world Mediterranean villa the hovers on the bluffs of Lake Michigan that boaters and beach walkers tend to point at and wonder what is that lovely place? The answer is the Villa Terrace, once a private home and now a decorative arts museum, and the perfect place for Kris and Scott to celebrate their wedding reception with dear friends and family back in the continental U.S. I love the symmetry in their two wedding celebrations – what started with a sunrise on the Pacific wound its way to a sunset on Lake Michigan. And all in the middle there was nothing but laughter and vibrant flowers, sunshine and live music, leis – both floral and made of traditional nuts, possibly the best cake I’ve ever tasted, and love – so much love.
