Stephanie & Matt will be married this winter in (hopefully) snowy Wisconsin, a cozy, elegant affair with romantic details and lots of love. But for their engagement session “real life” was on the docket as they invited me to Minneapolis and their old neighborhood, the places in the city where they grew their relationship, tested it and created it, made themselves happy and sure that, yes this is The One. With Old Mill Ruins Park and the North Loop neighborhood as our backdrop we wandered about town on a steamy summer day, refreshed equally by pizza and beer, laughter and friendship. They live a bit further out of the city now in a house they are making into a home, but they oh-so-very fondly talked about their time close to the river and even closer to their favorite Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza joint (I will confirm their selection of the #7 as the bomb –  it was perfectly salty with a mushroom-artichoke-secret-ingredient deliciousness I want to eat again at this very moment.) Life moves us about from apartment to house, from city to suburb, from state to state so who knows where they’ll be in 5 years or 10, but I do know that the first place you live together is so formative that it cannot be replaced or forgotten or diminished. I hope these photos help them always to go back to that place in time and space more easily than most, back to where it all started for real.
