It wasn’t too long ago that I met Drew and Michaela at Marquette for their morning engagement session but that day in late spring seemed world’s away when we revisited some of the same spots on their wedding day this August. Then they were just fiances, best friends and pals. On their wedding day they were all of that plus Married, tied forever together and blessed by not just the former president of Marquette who officiated their ceremony, but also their parents who joined them by the altar at Gesu to bid them well on the start of their married life. I don’t really know why weddings change couples or really how, I just know that there is a visible alteration that happens to people like Michaela and Drew who’ve found their soul mate and decided to make it officially official: the two really do become halves of the greater whole that is their relationship. And boy oh boy was it fun and sweet and silly and romantic to watch and photograph these two transform into Mr & Mrs. Die hard Marquette alumni (and former cheerleaders, both) Michaela & Drew incorporated everything authentic and happy about Marquette that they could into their day. From the ubiquitous gold & blue to photos in the gym, from a must-do Gesu ceremony to portraits at Joan of Arc chapel, being at Marquette on their wedding day was like being at home. And at their luxe reception at the new downtown Milwaukee Marriott a few surprises made the day all the more special. There were tear inducing toasts, a rockin’ dance floor, a visit by the racing sausages and a few rounds of Marquette fight songs and just like that, their wedding day & night couldn’t have been more perfect.
