Every wedding day is emotional in its own way and I love capturing the subtle ways a wedding usually transitions from giddy and nervous to elated and relieved to celebratory and fun. There is a rather wonderfully predictable flow to it all, I suppose. But things were a little different at Erica & Joe’s August wedding at the Pritzlaff and their home parish of St Mary’s in Hales Corners. There were no real transitions, but rather every emotion sort of stuck around all day and made each and every moment feel full and promising and important. Tears flowed early in the day and late at night while smiles mixed with an at times overwhelming feeling of gratitude, disbelief and joy. I felt it and so did everyone else blessed enough to be invited to their wedding, to be invited into their fun orbit where glammed out heels and table cloths go perfectly with customized toothbrushes (Joe is a dentist) and playful pink heart sunglasses for the bridesmaids. One of my favorite moments from a day and night that saw many added to my list, was when Erica & Joe traveled upstairs at the Pritzlaff to be alone for a few moments. They danced in the silence of a long empty warehouse space and caught their breaths on the roof – stunned by the beauty of the setting sun over Milwaukee and the fact that it was done, it was real, it was true: Erica & Joe are married.
