Eleanor & Joe’s winter wedding in Milwaukee was the sweetest of homecomings for the sweetest of couples. They met in Wisconsin, but are on an adventure of sorts as they live and work in Portland, Maine, a place that has captured their collective imagination, but not yet their history. Their histories are here in the Midwest, steeped in family and dance classes, friends and lake life, Madison & Milwaukee. For them a wedding is all about meaning and connection, about embracing the people who made them who they are, about letting so much love loose in the world that it comes back and makes one cry and laugh and dance whether on the dance floor or in the street. And so, we can write with total surety that Eleanor & Joe had exactly the wedding they hoped for. A family friend from Spain flew to Wisconsin to help officiate their catholic ceremony at Milwaukee’s oldest church and a bevy of grandparents blessed them with their love and hugs all day. The details were personal, as Eleanor’s maids wore jewelry she designed and Joe’s wool, American-made suit was selected from a favorite Portland shop. Eleanor wore her aunt’s earrings and guests were treated to fashion illustrations buy a local artist, a nod to Eleanor’s career in textiles & design. They danced, all day and all night, two people madly in love with each other and the world they are lucky to be a part of. They danced with their parents and their friends, to music only they could hear and to music so good it had the entire roster of guests spinning under a canopy of greenery at the Pritzlaff.
