Mira Cadence | Wisconsin Newborn Photographer

Back in 2007 I photographed Kim and Justin’s wedding at a lakeside resort in northern Wisconsin. As she was walking down the aisle the raindrops started to fall. Faster and faster they came until Justin looked at the crowd and gave a head nod. Everyone began to head for cover led by the bride and groom who by now were almost running, hand in hand, huge grins on their faces. They started from the top, inside and dry this time, still hand in hand, still grinning. Fast forward to 2012 and its raining again – snowing actually – the next time I see them. They both look the same to me despite the passage of 5 years, but, indeed, much has changed.

In fact, everything just changed.

Her name is Mira Cadence, a pair of names that suggest the moon and stars and the music her daddy loves to play. She is tiny and watchful, her blue eyes the same color as her daddy’s guitar case liner. Being held is her favorite, which her mamma does happily and often. Her fur brother Elani is still working things out but welcomes the scant few times when no one is looking and he can steal a lick of her toes. Her room is bright and homey, filled with girly things and ironic things, owls and knitted lovies; I laugh out loud at the title of the first book her parents bought for her : I’d really like to eat a child. The cartoon alligator on its cover looks sheepish, so does her daddy when I comment on the book. When I walk into the house I notice a basket by the door is filled with knit scarves – many crafted by her mamma, others by the patients her mom has taken care of as their nurse. I wonder how long until Mira learns to knit herself and starts to add to the basket. If children grow up to be like their parents this little girl is pretty lucky as she’s got lots of awesome options. Meet this future knitter, engineer, care-giver, coffee-lover, guitar player and musical talent, Mira Cadence.
