Allison & Andrew live in Boston and don’t get back to their home state of Wisconsin very often so, rather unusually, we kicked off their wedding week with their engagement session. We met at sunset and along with their pup, I captured them doing some of their favorite things – picnicking and drinking bubbly. They spend a great deal of time doing both at home in Boston on the Green and often with carryout sushi, so a patch of green close to the Milwaukee Public Market served nicely for a late day session. Fast forward by a few days and I captured them on their perfectly sunny with just a hint of cool August wedding weekend, saying their I Dos at the church where Allison’s grandparents were married. They followed it up with a reception at Western Racquet Club where Allison and her family spent many happy days on the courts and in the pool when she was growing up. Allison & Andrew figured that if they were going to travel half way acros the country to get married the day should be spent in places that feel…like home. I’m confident they succeeded on all accounts.
Allison & Andrew’s personal styles were very much at play in the wedding details. I would describe that style as preppy and simple, but elegantly so, with an emphasis on frozen custard. They not only served the classic dairyland treat instead of cake (Leon’s, in case you were wondering), they also stopped by Kopp’s between the ceremony & reception (they are equal opportunity when it comes to custard.) Their wedding party was comprised of all family – including Andrew’s four (!) brothers and lots of little people, all Allison’s nieces and nephews. Andrew opted for suits instead of tuxes and Allison wore a family heirloom necklace worn in her family on special occasions. The necklace has its own diary – its pages slowly filling with the dates and details of when the necklace was worn. Allison last wore it to high school graduation and she showed me the page in the diary that described that day. At some point soon she’ll have to write in the journal again – this time detailing the day she married her best friend.
