Kathleen & Ricardo are the kind of couple that don’t really get stressed when plans change. They go with the flow of things, seeing the best in everyone and every place, in every experience. Which is a good thing since lots about their wedding day ended up being rather malleable as a planned lake side ceremony was moved indoors due to rain. But I don’t mention the rain as a negative – in some ways I think it was a surprising bonus to their day as everyone pulled together and remembered that weddings are not about great views and lovely locations, but that they are about being together…together. As the rain drops fell just minutes from the ceremony start time, guests, family and friends shifted into a mode I can only describe as hey, we’re in this together so let’s celebrate and laugh and love no matter what the weather. In fact, so many of the guests had traveled from all over the world – Belgium, Argentina, Mexico, China, Switzerland and more – that I’m pretty sure there was going to be a wild party for Kathleen & Ricardo no matter what Mother Nature threw at Milwaukee’s lakeshore that day. And so the guests offered Kathleen & Ricardo some of the sweetest toasts I’ve ever heard (in a dozen or more languages), marveled at some of the most beautiful florals I’ve ever seen and shared in some of the most emotionally wonderful moments I’ve ever photographed.
Kathleen and Ricardo are both from big families of all girls and all boys, respectively, so their parents each gained the son or daughter they never had on their wedding day. Each toast, each hug, each dance felt a little like coming home for everyone involved so rain or no, the day was perfect – perfect for everyone, in every place and in every experience.
