Nicole & Kevin | Ireland Destination Wedding Photography

Nicole & Kevin have a love story for the ages. They were born and raised an ocean apart, she in America’s heartland surrounded by lakes and cows, he in Ireland’s north surrounded by lochs and sheep. They had both wandered away from home to find themselves and, perhaps, to find each other when they met in Boston the better part of a decade ago. They built a life together in Boston and in Limerick and back again in Boston, their love story constantly interrupted by the unbearably long process of obtaining an American Visa. Still, they held strong, buoyed by the modern miracle of Skype and an intensely passionate belief that they were each other’s Other Half. On their wedding day more than 100 witnesses confirmed that belief and surrounded the two of them with sheer joy, joy they returned in abundance with grace and love and laughter – so much laughter. A million little things made their day ever-memorable for me: the way Kevin hugged his adorable dad throughout the day, how all 9 (!) of Kevin’s siblings made it to the wedding, how Nicole looked at Kevin during their first dance to Tracy Chapman’s The Promise, how surprised most everyone was when a troop of Irish Dancers performed, Kevin’s brother Ronan reading letters from his favorite professional soccer teams wishing him well in marriage, and mostly how totally in synch Nicole & Kevin were the entire day.

I had the pleasure of touring a bit of Kevin’s north country before photographing their wedding at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath not too far from Dublin and I was struck by the raw and ever changing beauty of the landscape of the north. The sun appeared and then hid quickly, rain came and fog kissed the lochs, but at all times the land struck me as beautiful and precious, not unlike a marriage. I have to start this post with a few of those images before Kevin & Nicole’s huge post follows. I could have posted 100 more, but these are my favorites and I think the ones that show how two souls born and raised an ocean apart come to call each other Home no matter where they are in the world.
