Laura & Bill’s intimate wedding was one of the smallest, sweetest, most inviting wedding I’ve ever had the honor to photograph. As one of 30 people in attendance I was brought into their lives and had the pleasure to meet their truly nearest and dearest friends and family in the world. After saying I Do at Old St Mary’s – one of the or perhaps the oldest parishes in Milwaukee – Laura & William, Bill to most folks, gathered in the private lakeside dining room at Harbor House. There they shared laughs and portraits with every guest, strolled in the setting sunlight between courses, enjoyed cocktails and candy before and after a classic Harbor House Filet and Lobster dinner served to Bartolotta perfection. I always listen to the speeches at weddings as I photograph them but rarely am I treated to toasts and roasts by nearly every guest of the bride & groom. They come from large families – between them both they are 2 among 10 siblings. And all of those siblings plus parents and a few significant others and best friends talked about them in universally glowing terms. Laura never imagined she would meet a man so perfect for her as Bill and thus lived her life fully, adventurously, open heartedly before she ever met him. But now with him by her side her whole life has opened up beyond imagining. The same was said of Bill, and it was so obvious to me in every moment of the day the he is madly, deeply, wildly in love with his Laura. So between tears and laughter, quirky family photos and mini-Dr. Pepper toasts I came to know these two amazing people and fall in love with them too, just like everyone else in the room.
