Ellen & Ruben pulled off the nearly impossible dream wedding – a day that is simultaneously accessible and real and lovely, about family and friends and relationships, and downright elegant, a bit posh and extremely fun. It starts with Ellen in a Vera Wang stunner that is part architectural delight and part feminine silhouette and a ceremony at St Josaphat’s Basilica where Ellen’s grandparents have history (and a gorgeous stained glass window dedicated to her grandfather to prove it.) It continues with Ruben cutting a dashing figure in his tux while inviting guests to enjoy a little west Texas “Borderland” suite of traditions that include dollar dances, a Mariachi band, cigars and great after dinner drinks. Then there’s the taco truck that offered guests late night meals of authentically delicious soft shelled tacos spritzed with lime. I have to mention that when we first met with Ellen & Ruben they told me their goal for their wedding was to not sit down – that is to dance and celebrate and greet and dance some more. Let’s just say they achieved their goal. It turns out that Ruben is a fantastic dancer – the kind who dances with not just his feet but his whole body and heart and he swept Ellen through their wedding day and night with the soul and passion of a man who knows how to move. I love how much elegance and intensity these images show while still radiating a sense of calm and gentle happiness – which is how I imagine most friends and family of Ellen and Ruben would describe them. I suppose that’s how you know their wedding day was exactly what it should have been – a genuine reflection of Ellen & Ruben.
