Camp Minikani sits on what I expect is a perfect Wisconsin lake – crystal clear at the edges, with just the right distance across to make one think getting in a canoe and going exploring is a good idea. But in winter that lake is white and sparkling in a different way – just a beautiful edge for the now more intriguing woods and trails that wrap around its borders. I met Lindsey & Tim by a fire indoors overlooking the white expanse of the lake and Lindsey told me stories about growing up at the camp where she was a camper and then a counselor. Its a special place for her and increasingly for Tim as he gets to to know her ever better. They even considered getting married there but their lives before they met and after they met at Mayo in medical school have been blessed with lots of friends and close family so they need a bigger space. On this day they set aside the stresses and exciting challenges of research and learning and interviewing (Lindsey had almost literally just stepped off a plane from Boston where she was interviewing at medical centers close by to the one where Tim already works) to warm up with coffee and treats by a fire at a place that has been a kind of home for many years. They wandered a trail or two and laughed their way up slippery snow covered hills. I caught it all on camera and enjoyed some coffee with them too; all of us happy to be a part of such a crisp, beautiful Wisconsin winter day.
