The physical details of Andrea & Jon’s wedding day were sheer perfection. The dress, the shoes, the bespoke custom suit, the little girls oohing and ahhing over the bride, gorgeous, insanely detailed graphic signs, programs and papers, the poet grandpa, the food, the atmosphere – the day seriously had it all. And Andrea & Jon were humble, beautiful and happy to boot. I guess you could say their wedding was a sort of photographer’s playground and I hope they’ll enjoy the possibly hundreds of detail shots I’ll give them but more than that I hope they know that the real joy in their wedding day was photographing Them. They could have been wearing paper sacks and the best part of the day would have been photographing them and the dozens of people in the world that dearly cherish their love. You see, Andrea & Jon know they have found something amazing in one another and they know what its like to lose their nearest and dearest, which I think makes any love more precious. Andrea’s dad passed away a couple of years ago and his (missing) presence was every where during the day, more sweet than bitter, and more profound than anyone expected. I didn’t know her dad but after hearing stories and watching family men impersonate him (her sister’s brilliant toast idea) I came to feel like I was lucky enough to know him maybe just a little. His personality must have been big and warm and inclusive – a lot like Andrea’s actually – and it filled the house and the church and the Pritzlaff like no one could have anticipated. Jon cried with her but mostly they laughed and danced and had the best day of their lives. That is, the first of many best days to come.
