Lake Geneva isn’t Matt & Becky’s everyday home (that would be in Chicago) but as the saying goes: home is where the heart is. And their hearts are most definitely lakeside, on the water, in the water, somewhere, anywhere near the water that is so central to life in Lake Geneva where Becky spent much of her time growing up. So it was an obvious choice for them to host a destination wedding of sorts in Lake Geneva, complete with a cocktail cruise on the lake and a reception held at the Riviera Ballroom, a building from a bygone era that boasts nearly 360 degree views of town and lake. The day started at Becky’s family home and another house for Matt’s family across the lake, with their pup Wally paying visits to both soon-to-be-newlyweds before they walked down the aisle at the local catholic church. They walked on docks and through the sunfiltering forest, they celebrated in grand nautical style and toasted with copper mugs so cold the summer air caused little beads of condensation to gather on the mugs’ exteriors; they imported Chicago’s finest Glazed and Confused donuts for the “groom’s cake” and treated guests to delicious and only available in Wisconsin Spotted Cow. It was a day of tradition personalized to fit them exactly and the results were delightful, utterly beautiful and exactly what they hoped for.
