Erica & Mike live in Boston, but along with a host of friends and family members they traveled back to the land of Old Fashioned’s, lakes, and good people for their May wedding. Standing lakeside just south of downtown Milwaukee they kept it short and sweet, saying I Do in front of the people in the world that love them most. It was a little chillier than expected and the wind played games with Erica’s veil but the sentiments and love they expressed warmed everyone in attendance from the inside out. I loved the high/low quality of everything the two of them opted to do on their wedding day; the guys were handsomely comfortable sans coats while the ladies wowed in elegant tea length dresses and lots of lace. A stop on an elegant elm lined lane was followed up by drinks at Blackbird, a great bar that calls to mind words like hipster, dive, northwoods and cozy. A touch of rustic this and that decorated tables and high tops (think mason jar cocktails and burlap + lace table runners) while dinner plate dahlias and hydrangeas as big as grapefruits added a garden party element. Fabric from many family wedding dresses formed a heart sewn to Erica’s under skirt and Mike’s guys wore designer sneakers designed by a friend. All in all it was simply genuine, fun, elegant but easy and oh-so-exactly what they wanted. Cheers to doing it your way; Cheers to Erica & Mike.
