One of the first questions I asked Rachel & Chris when I first met them was how do you imagine spending the days leading up to your wedding? She replied that she would like to do yoga by the river close to their ceremony and reception venue, maybe have brunch with her girls and soak it all in. Chris said he planned on playing ice hockey with his guys. Ice Hockey? I asked, sure I misunderstood the timeline, the day before your wedding? The answer that came back was a clear and certain yes and I instantly I felt that I could be friends with these two. I love that they are so very different and so very complementary. They balance one another and shape one another, encouraging each other to grow and reach and sometimes to sit back and relax. They are private, but not shy, hard working but mostly in the service of earning their fun; explorers who love returning to a familiar place. One of those familiar and favorite places is Lake Geneva where Chris’ family has a home and where they spend gorgeous summer weekends on the boat, on the water, seemingly on top of the world. I met them there by Pier 290 in Williams Bay on a brilliant summer morning and we meandered from docks to beaches and through the woods by streams. It was easy and lovely and effortless, and we decided it was okay for yoga and ice hockey to wait, because summer on the lake is just too good to miss.
