It’s been just about 2 and half years since I last photographed Libby & Mike, at home in Madison with their newest family member Louie. Then they were still newlyweds in many ways – and definitely new parents – learning about their new son, their new rhythms and really, their new life. Just a week or so ago I saw them yet again with a new son, but this time in a new to them home and I worked to capture the start of yet another new life. Louie is a toddler now attending a “preschool”, in love with Thomas the Train and excited to show me his garbage truck toy. Millie the dog is still as calm as ever, sniffing out her place in this new world now occupied by another human: a sweet and sleepy brother for Louie named George. The new house has lots of space for George and it was clear to me that Libby, Mike & Louie have lots of space of a different sort for him, too – the kind of space that is best filled with love and cuddles and lazy fall days snuggled up in blankets knit and quilted and gifted by family.
