Courtney and Michael met ages ago, at the hospital where they were both working, brought together on a patient case. Courtney told me that after an incredibly short time span actually knowing that Michael existed in the world she felt like she had known him all her life. After hanging out with the two of them for a few hours on a sunny May afternoon I totally understood how that’s possible. Michael doesn’t rush through his words; he’s careful and sincere, thoughtful. He listens. I’ll write it again: He listens. And Courtney is worth listening to, by the way. She has the easier smile between the two of them and she’s introduced him to much of what Milwaukee has to offer. He’s from the Bay area but has come to love Milwaukee, no doubt in part because of her and because of their life here, because of places like Lake Park Bistro where he took her to dinner before proposing and because of Back Bay park where he went down on one knee to ask her for forever. I love how they wanted to go back to Back Bay for their engagement session, this time with their dog Charlie who’s ginger coat is the same color as Michael’s beard and Courtney’s highlights. This time without any rain, this time knowing that if nothing else they have each other’s forever.
