Engagement sessions often end up being some of my favorite days because I get to see – really see – two people just being together, two people who don’t know what to expect but who sometimes end up making me want to stick around and have dinner once the camera gets set aside. Abby & Adam are just that kind of couple. They don’t think they are very natural in front of the camera, but my eyes saw it differently; they are so natural with one another they couldn’t be anything but perfect in these images. They spend a lot of time by the water and love Wisconsin’s lake country (when they aren’t making plans to visit South Carolina, another favorite place) so they invited me out to a family property on a stupendously sunny day. The dragon flies shimmered on the long grasses and the wind played games with Abby’s hair. They indulged me in some barefoot dock-walking and even dipped a few toes into the wonderfully warm water. It was simple and sweet, very happy and very them. Spending just an hour or so with them on this summer day made me near giddy to spend another day with them in October when they tie the knot. If a lazy day at the lake looks this good on them I can’t imagine how amazing they’ll look and feel when it’s all about joining their families and creating a new one all to themselves.
