Sara & Matt | Milwaukee Courthouse Wedding Photographer

Sara & Matt have known each for what seems like forever, growing up together in a mostly rural community closer to Madison than Milwaukee, a place full of family farms and tight knit friendships. But Milwaukee is their home now, a city they love to explore like tourists and a city they are invested in as evidenced by their light-filled condo on the Milwaukee River. They both work downtown and love Milwaukee’s particular charms – a place where one can experience world-class architecture and hand muddled old fashioneds in equal measure. A place where one can proudly, if simply, say I Do in the stately grandeur of the Courthouse and celebrate love with a river cruise that ends with dancing at sunset on a lake so big it feels rather a lot like the ocean. And this is what Sara & Matt did – and they did it to perfection. For them a wedding was a bit of a formality – after all they’ve been each other’s chosen family for a long time now – but it was also a life changing moment when all the love and trust, the knowing and meaning, the compassion and passion between them was on the surface for all of us to see. Her engagement ring was his grandmother’s, a delicate sapphire and diamond design that Grandpa bought for his wife the year Matt was born. Their wedding rings were forged out of Grandpa’s wedding ring, a beautiful testament to lives and metals mixed for eternity. And the rest was mostly the work of their personal style and their willingness to let pros do their best work. You see, Sara is a wedding photographer in my studio so planning a wedding for them was all about picking their favorite places and artists and letting Milwaukee do the heavy lifting. Emily and I worked together to capture their day and in the end I think it was a gorgeous testament to doing things Your Way, to distilling a wedding down to its most meaningful and lovely parts in a way that was so beautifully and authentically Sara & Matt.
