In September I stepped outside my literal comfort zone that is the city and ventured south to a quiet lake near Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Designed by the talented, visionary leaders at Cherry Blossom Events and their equally awesome friend and colleague Amy Johnson from One Fine Day Productions, I cautiously coasted into Camp Wed hosted at Camp Wandawega. The campgrounds themselves are a photographer’s playground and a city girl’s delight. The owners of Camp Wandawega have created a luscious retreat with adorable collections of all things camp life and their styling and vision for Camp Wandawega as 50s/60s style family playground is incredibly consistent from lodge to docks and canoes, from bunk house accommodations to a teepee and place to practice archery. As a retreat for wedding creatives, Camp Wed was designed for small business owners and wedding professionals to feel engaged and encouraged, relaxed and rejuvenated, sustained and maybe even simplified. With workshops both business-focused and hands-on to fill the days and incredible food, drink and fun to fill the evenings, Camp Wed felt totally worth the time away from home, business and unsustainable noise inside my head.
Perhaps it would be best to let the pictures do the talking, but seriously y’all ~ Camp Wed + Camp Wandawega was amazing to experience. Embedded in that experience is the sweet fact that I made new friends and certainly tried new things: I slept in a teepee (yes, a real teepee) and woke to the sunrise over the lake, canoed through lillypads and swam with Shannon from Dynamic Events. Starr Mercer out of Sasketchawan, helped capture some of the atmosphere of the place with me in the frame, while Sarah from A La Crate Rentals and I talked about strategies for simplification all while enjoying the view from the porch of her adorable vintage camper digs. I adored talking shop, love and life with other photographers and filmmakers like Lexia Frank, Jenna Kutcher, April from April Mae Creative, and Katherine Mendieta, but also with event planners from Harmonious Union Events and LOLA Event Pros. And then Sound By Design brought it all home with a hilarious silent disco party I so want to see at a wedding.
So grab a cup of coffee, maybe a flannel blanket to wrap about yourself and enjoy this peek into the ultimate camp experience ~
