Sammy & Chris | Chicago Wedding at The Dawson

I think it is easy to say that the most important thing about getting married is to celebrate with family, but to keep that mantra at the forefront of everything one does during wedding planning is another matter entirely. Sammy and Chris, however, managed to never lose sight of that rather romantic ideal during all the ups and downs of arriving at their June wedding day. They designed a brunch wedding and reception that would start intimately and slowly grow to include more and more of their favorite people throughout the day. Each place and each person was chosen to invite connections, build memories and savor love – and oh how they had all three in abundance. They started the day at the Hotel InterContinental where Sammy actually lived for a few months as a child when her family first moved to Chicago and they met on the grand stairs to say let’s do this, together. At a lovely hidden, garden meets industrial spot within sight of the impressive Chicago Skyline they exchanged vows in a personal ceremony officiated by her best friend and his brother. With mimosas in hand they welcomed more guests for dancing and cake and oh yes, the sweetest, tear-inducing toasts from family, including Sammy’s little sister who bravely confided in all how much she looks up to Sammy. Amid the tears and the laughter, the bridal details and the surprising brunch deliciousness it was all just as Sammy and Chris wanted – a day to move savor and just be together, the best first day as husband and wife they could imagine.
