Karen & Martin aren’t from Milwaukee or even Wisconsin, but they are the kind of people who can make a home wherever they go, for school or jobs, or yes, even for love. When we first heard about Karen & Martin’s courthouse wedding plans most of the focus was on setting a date that would coincide with a particular week when Martin would be in Milwaukee from Dublin where he lives and where they met. But with a date and a photographer squared away Karen & Martin found some space to imagine something a little bigger, something a little more delightful and lovely – something with moms and dads and friends. Something with confetti! And so it was that Karen & Martin’s romantic little Milwaukee wedding took shape. They started the day at her 1920s apartment on the East Side, a sunny lakeside space that on this day was filled to the brim with the sound of toasts and happy chatter as friends and family gathered to shepherd them to the Courthouse. Karen’s mom helped her dress and Martin’s best lads from Ireland straightened his tie. They exchanged vows and drank deeply to love and happiness on the lakefront and at an intimate rooftop dinner at Braise. Karen danced with her dad, brothers and of course, her new husband. Everyone in attendance looked on in delight, thankful to witness and share in such profound love. It was still the small wedding they imagined, but certainly everything is better when it is shared with the ones we love.
