When I first met Shannon & Jack in Louisville for their engagement session I characterized them as “a little bit city and a little bit country.” I was wrong. They do love the city and they do love the country, but really, a better way to describe them is to say they are all in for the Outdoors. So on their wedding day we explored many kinds of urban and rural terrain from city alleyways to lakeside beaches, from grassy fields to a good old fashioned porch. Every space and every moment found them fully at home and comfortable – with their surroundings and with each other – which fits with the kind and insightful words of Jack’s brother who toasted them at their Schlitz Audubon reception. He noted that one of the things he adores about Jack is that Jack stays true to himself and does what he wants because he wants to do it. And so, to be his friend (and especially to be his bride) is to know that you are chosen for you and loved just as you are. There is no greater compliment I can think of than that: to be loved for who you are. And so, with full hearts we adored being a part of Shannon & Jack’s wedding day where everything was chosen and shared with love: the pine trees hand-picked from Jack’s family land, the signature cocktails that spoke to their histories in Louisville & Wisconsin, the inclusion of Birds of Prey at the reception. Everything was authentic to them and exceedingly lovely to photograph. SO grab a cup of something warm on this chilly winter day and enjoy this look into Jack & Shannon’s wedding day that was perfect – just the way it was.
