I first met Sam and Pat in their current city of San Francisco. As they took me to some of their favorite spots, meandering through the architecture of the Palace of Fine Art and then in the shadow of the Golden Gate bridge, where Patrick proposed, I couldn’t help but wonder about why we were planning for a midwestern wedding. But after a covid delay of almost exactly 1 year and the resulting opportunity to think on what matters most in this world, it is entirely clear to me why they would plan for a Milwaukee wedding. The answer is: Family and Friendship. Samantha grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan and Milwaukee will always be a sort of home. So, what better opportunity than a wedding is there in the world to introduce your east coast college friends and your west coast work friends into the world you grew up in, the world you’ll grow your family in? And oh yes, it doesn’t hurt that Milwaukee in early fall is simply glorious with warm weather days and lake side breezes, yummy light and some seriously good architecture. There was so much to love about this wedding, but I’ll enumerate just a few. Sam dressed at home and Pat met her on the backyard bluff where they exchanged personal wedding vows. They were wrapped up all day by friends and family and their sweet ceremony was officiated by a friend. After dinner Patrick’s college acapella group stunned the crowd with their vocal talents and the dance party simply did not stop all.night.long. It was a day that punctuated an entire weekend full of long-awaited fun with friends and memory making with family. It was a day worth waiting for and a day we were honored to capture in images for Samantha & Patrick.
