Ariel & Eric | Discovery World August Wedding

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an artist in possession of a heart must be in want of meaning. We prepare, we envision, we respond, we make. And in the world of photography the next step is to come to the computer and edit, to export, to share. There is a gap of sorts between the wanting, the making and the sharing. In the gap many things can happen. The world can fall apart, for example. This is when we find ourselves asking:

Is what we do enough? Are we doing anything? How can we care about this when that is happening?

My friends, I have almost no answers but this one; the one answer that keeps me going, that keeps this studio going: Joy. Our capacity to have it, to create it, to share it. Our inexorable need for Joy. And in this moment Ariel & Eric’s wedding day is the perfect vessel for finding Joy, plus love & friendship, connection & calm, tradition & choice, for remembering why we photograph weddings in the first place. We photograph weddings because there are people in the world like Ariel & Eric who are so in love, so in the moment, so generous with their Joy that we can find meaning in a world that so often defies reason.
