Kelley & Alex met at Marquette and although she’s from south of here and he’s from north of here they gathered their nearest and dearest in the city of their beloved alma mater for their gorgeous wedding day. Kelley’s big Irish family from just outside of Chicago came up in droves, treated to perfect weather and a fun weekend to be in town with Irish Fest by the lakefront and a very Irish wedding day on Wisconsin Avenue. Alex’s family made no small trek, traveling down from central Wisconsin to join in a moving ceremony and elegant reception, too – delighted to be wined, dined and then entertained by a surprise pipe band from Chicago. I could skip right to my amazed description of the impromptu irish dancing performed by Kelley, her cousins, sisters and mom but that would shortchange this very real story of two people in love, their sweet friends and family and all the fun and emotion they shared on this wedding day. Kelley was the image of elegance and style – a little sparkly, but perfectly so and playful pops of color and pattern jumped out at me throughout the day. I adored the gentlemen in Vera Wang tuxes and polka dot & striped socks with ladies in classic JCrew paired with brilliant purple heels. The Wisconsin Club was the perfect setting for a late summer wedding and its old world charm stood up to the endearingly rowdy crowd that toasted loudly, stomped their feet in time to the pipers and drums and saluted the Irish and American flags with equal respect. It was, by all accounts, a perfect day.
