Last November I visited Meg & Garrett in New York where they live now and came to know them just a bit. They treated me to a delicious dinner and a great walking tour of Central Park West, to stories about college when they met and became best friends, and ultimately, to time with them, which was by far the biggest treat of all. And I’m pretty sure that’s how their adoring families feel about them, too, as both their moms and dads live states away making time together the most precious thing of all. So on their wedding day Meg & Garrett made sure they slowed things down as much as possible. Meg dressed at her childhood home and Garrett’s family visited the hotel suite where he spent the morning. They shared a full mass with Father Tim, a priest who’s known her family for ages and meandered through the city in a trolley with their bridal party. They greeted guests at their lakeside cocktail hour and shared in the surprise of Meg’s dad singing to them a capella as part of his welcome toast. Champagne popped and fizzed while glasses clinked, tears fell and laughter was never ending and then just when it seemed it couldn’t get any better the guests and family were invited up from the tent at Pier Wisconsin for dancing in the Pilot House. The decor was spectacular, the mood electric, and I’ve never seen a crowd dance so happily for so long in my life. In an atmosphere like no other I’ve photographed the band brought the house down as Garrett held Meg in his arms, thinking that time with her was all that could ever matter in the world.
