Emily & Ryan have a comparatively broad experience of the world as they grew up in two different countries – Emily is from here in the US and Ryan is from the UK – but Milwaukee holds a special place in their hearts, histories and love story. They met at Marquette University through mutual friends, and from the cobblestoned campus to the wide blue lake front, Milwaukee has hosted the story of them. So on their wedding day it simply made sense to host family and friends from across the world at a beloved spot in the city and an international architectural icon – The Milwaukee Art Museum. They added in touches of home for Ryan and played up the differences in their two cultures, so to speak. He wore plaid and a rousing piper helped proclaim them husband and wife in the spirit of his dad’s Scottish ancestry; they treated guests to favors of custom blended tea or coffee and not only an American style wedding cake, but also a groom’s cake in the British fashion – a fruit cake whose top tier is saved for the Christening of the couple’s first born. And oh, yes, I spy the Union Jack here and there in the photos below. In addition to all these fun details and style choices, what I really see in these photo Carolina captured for them is a quiet simplicity that comes with sheer joy and with, well, with being at home. I love how there is fun and frivolity, a bit of goofing off and hanging with friends, but there is also so much sweetness and immense gratitude, it can’t be missed.
