Some weddings feel like big celebrations because everyone is happy and dressed up and ready to toast and dance and laugh. Becca & Bobby’s had all of that – in abundance – but it felt like a celebration because two families were finally getting to join one another and they were THRILLED about this fact. I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings and I write, in all honesty, that Becca & Bobby’s parents may have been the happiest I’ve ever had in front of my lenses. His mom and her mom hugged their way through the day, overjoyed to get to call one another in-laws and to gain a daughter and son, respectively. Their dads smiled and toasted in turn, their siblings welcomed the other’s siblings as their own. It was practically a family reunion. And through it all I could see that Becca and Bobby were steeping themselves in the joy, in the ways that are native and natural to them. Becca was quieter and calmer, with a shy smile and incredibly emotional eyes. Bob may have shed a few (hundred) tears and expressed his deep sense of gratefulness all day long and into the night. And then at the end it was just them, off to Europe for a grand tour. I expect they are back by now and back to school and work and school that is work. But this day was so overwhelming, so sustaining I am certain these images will take them right back to their wedding day, the day their families joined as one.
