Baby Lucia isn’t really a baby anymore, but it’s hard not to call her that. I first met her as a newborn, all chubby bellied and round cheeked, and simply asleep in her light-filled, love-filled room. And then again at 6 months I was honored to see her anew, at home close to Christmas and easily outshining the lights on her holiday tree. So when I walked into the tall grasses at the Mequon Nature Preserve to say hello to her this fall I was still thinking…baby. But she’s a walker and mover and just-so-interested-in-these-rocks kinda kid now, with sweet little curls and a strong-willed character that suggests she will be quite a force to reckon with in the years to come. Her parents are in love with her (and each other) and it was a simply delightful outing investigating grasses and Queen Anne’s Lace, of meandering and playing. I guess you could say it was the perfect morning for a toddler like Lucia.
