Katy & Mike | Wisconsin Country Club Wedding with Et Voila Events

Katy & Mike have had a crazy (wonderful) year. They moved cross country, bought a house, planned a honeymoon, started contemplating birthday-related milestones and, oh yes, got married. And best of all, they jumped in feet first, heart-on-fire, all in for love and fun on the wedding day they designed. We loved everything about their day; please indulge me in this partial list: They were married in her home town at a gorgeous church lovingly illustrated on their invitations and invited guests to the gregarious good fun of a lavender toss exit from the church. They made time to go to the lakefront to feel the wind on their skin (and in her veil!) and then later in the day, to watch the sunset over the trees and hills of their reception venue. They incorporated gorgeous floral details that can only be described as romantic, but also offered up a cheese (wheel) cake and insisted on hand crafted old fashioneds for guests. And as if to mirror all the love and joy that Katy & Mike offered to their guests, their guests offered it right back to them with a flashmob-style singing toast by everyone gathered and late night sparkler fun. If their wedding was anything like their life will be, count me in: its gorgeous, light-hearted and love-filled and everything a Love Story should be.

Eleanor & Joe | Third Ward Engagement Engagement Photography

Eleanor & Joe live in Maine and are planning a winter wedding for 2020, two facts about them that make me think of snow and the need to wrap oneself in something warm (your best friend and fiance’s arms being the most recommended.) But their dispositions and sweet smiles bring sunshine and warmth to mind so I was thrilled we were able to plan a golden hour engagement session for them during their travels back to Milwaukee for wedding  festivities. So with the late summer sun warming our skin we wandered the city they used to call home. They shared little bits about their lives and histories that made me like them all the more – from Eleanor’s wish for a “wedding ring” made up of estate rings (they are gorgeous and stacked and she can’t wait to get the third one on her finger come the wedding day) to Joe’s dancing skills (his grandmother was a dancer and dance teacher.) They snuggled and danced and just let me see them be together and it felt like a gift. Happy engagement Eleanor & Joe; we can’t wait to be there for the big day when you (officially) become one another’s.

Aiday & Loong | Chicago City Engagement Session

Aiday & Loong are the kind of people that make wedding photography a joyous pursuit. Aiday moves through the world with a smile on her face and kind words on her lips. Loong is gracious and warm, an inviting host and Aiday’s best friend. Together they love to travel and explore, to taste their way around the world and whenever possible to experiment in the kitchen, incorporating ingredients or ideas from their many explorations. Not pictured here are the many tubs of homemade ice creams they treated me to after our session and anyone fortunate enough to know these two will be shaking their head yes right now. Aiday and Loong love to invite friends over to try their delectable creations and now I feel blessed to count among their friends too. But before they fed me Peruvian Coffee and Jalapeno Peach ice cream, they treated me to a tour of their town: Chicago. They’ll be married in Milwaukee in just over a month so it was important to capture some of their favorite places and views, to capture them surrounded by the architecture, gardens, spaces and places they love to call home.
