Newborn Rosie at Home | Mequon Newborn Photography

Newborn Rosie Hazel came home this October to a place oh-so-ready for her arrival. Her soft and sweet animal-loving nursery is the brightest room in the house, a space I imagine will become a haven for family dogs looking to stretch out and the family cat seeking a new chair to claim as a curl up spot. Rosie’s mom is a veterinarian so the choice of animal-themed decor didn’t surprise me, but I was totally impressed with the wonderfully redone DIY dresser her parents crafted for her. Between Rosie’s parents and me much of our chatter turned to hopes and dreams like getting Rosie on skis and up mountains. We talked of baby backpacks and strategies for getting back out into the wild where Megan and Clay have found so much of the world to love. But mostly, we stared at Rosie’s sweet cheeks and tiny toes, and allowed for a morning of calm, of puppy belly rubs and of newborn cuddles. So for now the wild can wait, Megan and Clay are content to hang with Rosie (and the pups & kitty) in this new place called Parenthood.

Amelia & Nik | Indian Fusion Wedding at Discovery World | Part II: Christian Ceremony and Pavilion Reception

discovery world indian fusion wedding second ceremony and pavilion reception

All weddings require a bit of stamina to make it happily through from morning hair appointments to late night revelry, but a Fusion wedding is a particular, lovely beast that requires just that much more. A second suit, another dress, her sister’s veil, exquisite flowers and foods unveiled slowly so as to be enjoyed, these were the details that defined the romantic mood and second ceremony for Amelia & Nik. Following her family tradition, Amelia’s father walked her down a new aisle to Nik so they could slip wedding rings on one another’s fingers and recite vows that spoke to their own brand of joyful living. All were treated to Wisconsin’s favorite nibbles from cheese curds to old fashioneds and the party took a turn to match the sensational beats of house music mixed with Indian Bollywood staples. Amelia & Nik tiptoed out to the lakefront and climbed atop the rocks to catch better views of the blue sky and waves beyond the jetty. And perhaps best of all, they listened – really listened – to the loving words offered to them by way of toasts and they dove in, ALL IN for each other. In the end one can only say that they Did It Right. They fused everything together, themselves, their families, their lives.

Amelia & Nik | Indian Fusion Wedding at Discovery World | Part I: Baraat and Hindu Ceremony

Amelia & Nik’s wedding day was many things: colorful, cheerful, fun, traditional, non-traditional, romantic. The list could on for well beyond these few choice adjectives. But the most important descriptor that cannot be left out is:

Perfect.

It perfectly reflected their lives as individuals and as a couple, their histories and families, their passions and their style. It mixed everything up and yet, reflected them so very clearly: Amelia & Nik are deeply in love, best friends, dance partners for life and totally thrilled to be one another’s partner. This first in a two part blog post starts early on a sunny summer morning with Indian rituals and heirlooms (Amelia wore Nik’s mom’s wedding jewelry along with new jewelry to call her own) and included a sail boat ride for Nik and his best guys. To throbbing dance beats and a chorus cheers Nik arrived at Discovery World as part of his Baraat and it was obvious he loved every.single.minute.of.it. Under a canopy of greenery and surrounded by their parents and siblings, plus beloved grandparents, Amelia & Nik expressed their gratitude, their hopes and prayers for their life together and were joined in the Hindu tradition, tied together, circling the fire, toes to stones and hearts open to love. Later they would exchange rings and toasts, but for the first part of their wedding day it was more than enough to be husband and wife in the tradition of Nik’s family; it was Perfect.
